Unlike adults that rarely become the victims of predators, the young are often the targets of lions, hyenas, and leopards. About a quarter of juvenile do not survive in their first year. Nowadays, the species is protected, yet its numbers are stable.

The species reaches sexual maturity by the age of 3-4 years. The Giraffe has few natural predators. After a gestation period of about 15 months, a female gives birth to one calf. However, twins can also be born but is rare. Baby giraffe are protected by conservation groups and sometimes raised on a farm.
